Los Frentes del Agua
A fanzine-essay that weaves together the Spanish Civil War’s Water Front — where the Republican army defended Madrid’s water supply at Paredes de Buitrago — with the privatization of the Canal de Isabel II, Sufi mystical thought, and intimate encounters with the Manzanares river: tortoises devouring a headless fish, a seagull tired of salt, a turtle born from a wound. Addressed as an invocation to San Isidro Labrador, patron saint of Madrid and finder of hidden waters, the text moves between political urgency and poetic meditation, proposing water as sacred commons and portal to a world of subtle bodies.
