Coral Heart ~ Coral Choir
As a fellow of the Panel on Planetary Thinking in Giessen (Germany), I developed an artistic and pedagogical research process focused on coral ecologies and bodily relationships with water, through a three-day “Wet Workshop” and an audiovisual installation that explored coral reef regeneration and microplastics through the voice of María Antonieta López, a Venezuelan marine biologist at the Ocean2100 aquarium at Justus Liebig University. The video’s sound is a mix of recordings made at the aquarium using a hydrophone I built myself and an electromagnetic sensor.
The video installation was triggered by a live performance in which I produced sounds in real time using a hydrophone in a fish tank filled with water from the aquarium and a “Marine Harp” I built—an instrument made from recycled metal and filled with water. The installation and performance offered an immersive journey through the polyphony of corals, the extractive infrastructures of the deep sea, and the regeneration of reefs.

Coral Heart guided meditation at the Museo del Mar (Sea Museum) in the University Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Bogotá, organized by the Line of Art, Science and Technology of IDARTES. Pictures by Felipe Portilla. This meditation was also presented at the Parque Explora Aquarium in Medellín, in an event with artist Jorge Barco and marine biologist Paula Zapata.
