In collaboration with the Institute for Postnatural Studies, we developed a situated sound installation that explored the ecopolitical layers of the five artificial reefs installed by the city of Barcelona in 2003 two kilometers offshore, by submerging three hundred concrete blocks at a depth of twenty meters. Commissioned by Manifesta 15, this work appeared along Barcelona’s Seafront Promenade deployed through five flags showing bathymetric maps of each area of the reef, with QR codes linking to segments of the sound piece, which was composed using sounds recorded in different sites of the city’s coastline with hydrophones, directional microphones and electromagnetic sensors.

Based on this research we also developed The Critical Cartography of Underwater Barcelona installed at the Disseny Hub as part of the exhibition L’Ocea Parla, showing the network of agents involved in this coastline nature-cultural ecosystem, with three speakers installed in the room playing parts of the symphony.
